New Toyota Hilux Travo ECU remapping
The 1GD-FTV 2.8 diesel leaves the factory calibrated for the worst fuel, the hottest climate and the longest warranty Toyota underwrites anywhere. We rewrite it on the new Denso Gen4 ECU for Indian fuel, Indian heat and the way you actually drive.
Stage 1: what you gain
Typical results on a healthy, stock 2.8 diesel on good fuel.
| Measure | Stock | Tuned | Gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mid-range torque | Factory | Stronger | Pulls in gear |
| Throttle response | Damped | Immediate | Sharper |
| Turbo response | Standard | Earlier boost | Less lag |
| Highway economy | Baseline | Optimised | Up to 10–15%* |
*At the same driving style. Use the extra torque harder and consumption goes up.
What we calibrate
A complete calibration for engine and gearbox, built on the new-generation ECU. Not a recycled Revo file.
Denso Gen4 ECU
New-generation engine control-
The Travo moves to Denso's fourth-generation diesel ECU. It is a different platform from the Gen2 and Gen3 units on older Hilux, Fortuner and Innova models, so older files and older tools don't carry over.
We read and write the Gen4 directly, and your original factory file is archived before anything changes.
Diesel injection optimisation
Fuel, timing and rail pressure-
We rework injection quantity, injection timing and common-rail pressure together, along with the boost and smoke limits that govern them. The goal is more torque from cleaner, more complete combustion, not more fuel for its own sake.
Exhaust temperatures and smoke are logged on the road and kept inside safe limits.
Shift point calibration
6-speed automatic-
The factory gearbox calibration was written for the stock torque curve. With more mid-range available, we move the upshift and kickdown points so the truck holds gear and pulls, instead of hunting and dropping down on every gradient or overtake.
Tell us how you use the truck — highway, towing, city, off-road — and we set the shift behaviour to match.
VMAX limiter
Factory limit: 170 km/h-
The Travo is electronically limited to 170 km/h from the factory. We can raise it, or lower it for fleet and commercial owners who want a firm cap on their drivers.
Before raising it, check your tyres' speed rating. We will look at them with you.
DPF and SCR control
Diesel particulate filter and AdBlue system-
The Travo's after-treatment system is managed by its own control strategy. We calibrate DPF regeneration behaviour and SCR (AdBlue) control for trucks that spend their lives in short city runs, dust or heavy load, where the factory strategy can struggle.
We also diagnose recurring DPF, SCR and AdBlue warnings and fix the cause before tuning.
Why the Travo responds so well
In markets where Toyota sells this truck with a manual gearbox, the same 1GD-FTV engine is given a lower torque rating than the automatic. Same engine, same turbo, same injectors. The only difference is software.
That tells you how much the factory calibration holds back to cover every market, every fuel and every service history in the world.
- Real-world torqueWe build the curve between 1,600 and 3,000 rpm, where a loaded pickup spends its life.
- Overtakes without a downshiftThe change most owners notice first. The truck pulls in gear instead of hunting for one.
- Towing and load haulingExtra mid-range is what a trailer or a full tray asks for, and it cuts gearbox hunting on climbs.
- Better economy at the same paceMore low-rpm torque means less throttle to hold speed on the highway.
How we do it
Consult
We confirm your variant, drive layout, ECU hardware and how you use the truck.
Health check
A full diagnostic scan. We don't tune a truck with existing faults, and we'll tell you if something needs fixing first.
Backup
Your original factory file is read and archived permanently before anything is written.
Calibrate
Engine and gearbox calibration built for your truck, your fuel and your driving. Not a file bought off a database.
Road test
Logged and validated under load before the truck leaves us.
Handover
You get the before-and-after data, and your stock file stays safe for life.
Supported hardware
All Indian-market new Hilux 2.8 diesel automatics, in both 4x2 and 4x4. If your ECU label differs from the one below, send us a photo and we'll confirm support before you book.

Questions owners ask
Is the Travo's engine really detuned from the factory?
Yes, and Toyota's own ratings show it. Where the 1GD-FTV is sold with a manual, Toyota gives it a lower torque rating than the automatic. The hardware is the same; only the calibration changes. Factory maps are written to survive poor fuel, extreme heat and missed services in every market Toyota sells in. We calibrate for your conditions instead.
Will the automatic gearbox handle the extra torque?
We calibrate the gearbox alongside the engine, not separately. Shift points and torque delivery are set so the transmission sees the new torque in a controlled way. We check fluid condition and shift quality during the health check, and if we're not comfortable with what we find, we'll say so before tuning.
Does a remap void my Toyota warranty?
We won't tell you it doesn't. On a new truck, a dealer can decline a powertrain claim if they detect a modified calibration. Your original file is archived and the ECU can be returned to stock at any time, but on a truck still inside its warranty you should make this decision with your eyes open. Talk to us about timing.
Will fuel economy really improve?
At the same driving style, usually yes, mostly on the highway, because you need less throttle to hold speed. If you use the new torque to drive harder, consumption goes up. The map gives you the option; your right foot decides.
Can you raise or remove the 170 km/h speed limiter?
Yes, we can raise it, and we can also lower it for fleet use. Before raising it, make sure your tyres are rated for the speed. Road speed limits still apply.
Is it reversible?
Completely. Your factory calibration is archived before we write anything, and we can restore it whenever you want: before a dealer visit, before resale, or if you simply change your mind.
Talk to us about your Travo
Tell us about your truck, how you use it and what you want from it. If we think a remap is the wrong call for your truck, we'll tell you that too.
